Aunt Laurie's Gift

THE New Family Twins needed a chest of drawers. Aunt Laurie, Uncle Brian, and cousin Pearl generously contributed the funds to buy one.
Above photo, Dad picked the wrong day to go to IKEA and pick it up. They were having a sale and it was packed with bargain hunters.
This is what the Parents are currently using. Good for organizing and storing files, it is not so useful for kids clothes. EJ's crib is to the right. Dad made the window (left) out of red oak from the Home Depot.

Here is the new dresser, unboxed and unassembled. It came in two heavy boxes. Directions said some assembly required. Dad found all assembly was required.

Above, the frame and sides are assembled. This only took 2 hours. No, that isn't because it was difficult, it just took that long with the constant interruptions from the future users, i.e the Twins. Assembly was easy enough. IKEA's pre-drilled holes always line up for the hardware.

Drawers are finally assembled. Dad found the style of the drawer liner pattern questionable, yuck stripes. Again, assembly was quick but this photo was taken 6 hours after beginning because someone always needed a bottle, diaper change, huggy-lovey, (repeat). Dad tried, at one point, to carry Liesel around on his chest in the Moby, trying to multitask, but she wasn't cooperative. He could either work or focus on her, but not both.

Ta-dah! Finally done. The kids decided to sleep for an hour and AT THE SAME TIME! So Dad took advantage and completed it. This is where it will reside, between the cribs, until they are toddlers. It is a nice looking piece, and although it looks out of place in this photo, it fits well into the room decor.

As you can see, neither one currently sleeps in their crib. They have become convenient "stuff collectors." Oh well, they'll get there.
